‘Within Us’ materialises hope as a reminder of human resilience in response to a world in polycrisis. In a climate of pessimism and resignation, it can be hard to see a prospect, without hope for a better future. This series of sculptures aims to catalyse strength and trust through hope as an active belief, found within oneself and one’s communities.
Each sculpture features a pristine large-scale ceramic egg, which is enclosed by a thick layer, a rough mass causing pressure on the egg inside. But the egg resists the heavy force of its surrounding and breaks this outside layer.
As a symbol for new life an egg might appear fragile but carrying a hidden potential. The contrast of pressure and relief, vulnerability and resilience opens up a space for reflection. Together, the sculptures form a society inviting the viewers to connect to their own inner egg, finding hope to break the pattern around.
