A chandelier, as an embodiment of depression, casting no light but darkness, is gives visibility and space, to depression as a non-visible mental illness, in this sculptural installation.

Its massive shape, made of dark red clay, consists of six heads, carring the heaviness felt being stuck within. Six pairs of eyes, filled with black tears, frozen while running down, represent this dark inner state between deep sadness and emotional numbness, while bringing the inside to the surface.

Many people diagnosed with depression experience avoidance and exclusion from others. Being talked about but not talked to, nourishes loneliness, disconnection and isolation.

The chandelier, culturally known as a symbol of prestige and beauty, situated as the centerpiece in a room of social gathering, is breaking the facade and confronts the viewer. Hanging on eye level, the chandelier’s eyes face the viewer directly and leave no space for evasion, confronting with the silence, discomfort and isolation.
